Lifting the 'Ironed Curtain' on a Martha Stewart Living-type show, The Smart Woman Survival Guide takes place behind the scenes of a fictional lifestyle program called Smart Woman. Like Sex and the City, The Smart Woman Survival Guide follows a group of women who bond over their work, lives and loves.
The Smart Woman Survival Guide stars Tricia Braun as Lana Pearson, the demanding host of Smart Woman, and her trusty staff, Liz, played by Siobhan Murphy, Nat, played by Laura McLean and Brooke, played by Joanne Alderson. Alongside the entertaining, sometimes ridiculous but always relatable situations in which the leading ladies find themselves, the audience is presented with tips, how-tos and information that today’s “smart woman” would find valuable. When the women go into the real world to research segments for the show, they interact with real world experts who make guest appearances on the Smart Woman show.
Nat has to buy a new washer for Lana, and when her dad and Wyatt insist on helping, their competition with each other takes over. Brooke and Liz have a crush on the same barista, and when that barista shows interest in Liz.
Nat goes from researching a segment on bras to having to wear a bra on national television. Brooke has no problem wearing a bra on television -- it’s a mammogram that she’s afraid of.
Nat researches her way into a date. Unfortunately, it’s with a rock climber who thinks Nat can climb too.
Alistair and Nat fight their attraction to one other when they are forced to spend the afternoon together cleaning Lana’s bathroom.
Nat informs Alistair, Liz and Phil that their lottery pool has won big. However, Natalie is unable to keep the secret from Lana, who gets upset and runs out in the middle of shooting a segment because she wasn’t included.
Lana returns from a retreat, transformed by a new way of thinking called Inya and wants to change the entire show. An overworked Liz must save the show from Lana’s crazy new ideas and she needs Nat and Brooke’s
Nat’s feeling low about Wyatt and makes the dreaded mistake: drinking and dialing. Brooke finds out that her closest family member, her grandfather, has died. She has to arrange everything and now, she feels completely alone.
